How to Calculate Percentage of Marks
June 14, 2026 · 3 min read · Toolszy Team
Working out your exam percentage is simple once you know the formula.
The formula
Percentage = (marks obtained ÷ total marks) × 100.
Example: you scored 450 out of 500 → (450 ÷ 500) × 100 = 90%.
Multiple subjects
Add up the marks you obtained across all subjects, add up the total possible marks, then apply the same formula. For 6 subjects of 100 each (600 total) with 480 obtained: (480 ÷ 600) × 100 = 80%.
