How to Convert CGPA to Percentage (CBSE & Others)

June 11, 2026 · 3 min read · Toolszy Team

Many Indian students need to convert their CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) into a percentage for applications and forms. Here's how.

The CBSE formula

CBSE uses a simple rule: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. So a CGPA of 8.5 becomes 8.5 × 9.5 = 80.75%.

Why 9.5?

CBSE analysed results over several years and found that multiplying the grade point by 9.5 closely matched students' actual marks — so it became the official conversion.

Other universities

Not every institution uses 9.5. Some use different multipliers or their own tables, so always check your university's rule. Our calculator lets you change the multiplier.
