Frequently asked questions
Which TDS sections are covered?+
Common ones: interest/FD (194A), rent (194I), professional or technical fees (194J), commission/brokerage (194H) and contractor payments (194C). You can also enter a custom rate for any other section.
Why can I edit the TDS rate?+
TDS rates and thresholds are revised by the government from time to time (several changed in 2024). Making the rate editable keeps the tool accurate whenever rules change.
What if PAN isn't available?+
If the payee hasn't given a valid PAN, TDS is generally deducted at a higher rate of 20%. Untick the PAN box and the calculator applies that automatically.
